Bitcoin mining uses so much electricity that 1 city could curtail facility's power during heat waves

The bitcoin mining facility is located right beside the city of Medicine Hat's new natural gas-fired power plant. The bitcoin plant can consume more than 60 megawatts of power — at least 10 times more electricity than is used by any other facility in the city.
