Six Harvard students chosen as Rhodes Scholars

Six Harvard undergraduates are among the 32 American men and women chosen as Rhodes Scholars today. They will begin their studies at the University of Oxford in October 2014. Alexander Joel Diaz, Elizabeth Hockfield Byrne, Katherine Elida Warren, Paolo Poggioni Singer, Andrew Scott Lea, and Aurora Catherine Griffin were selected as Harvard’s newest Rhodes Scholars. Arguably the most famous academic award available to American college students and graduates, Rhodes Scholarships every year attract hundreds of top students. The 2014 American Rhodes Scholars faced competition from 857 students nominated by 327 colleges and universities nationwide. This year’s awards bring the ranks of Harvard’s American Rhodes Scholars to 348. Created in 1902 by the will of British philanthropist Cecil Rhodes, the first class of American Rhodes Scholars entered Oxford in 1904.
