Osteoporosis drug promotes healing of fractures, study finds

Early results show that 93% of 145 patients had significant healing of bone fractures after eight to 12 weeks on teriparatide, or Forteo. Teriparatide is a fragment of parathyroid hormone. A drug used to treat severe osteoporosis promotes healing of hard-to-mend fractures in the elderly and others, reducing pain and time spent in nursing, researchers said today.
