Coral reef preservation has a long history

Native Hawaiian islanders began practicing reef conservation activities during the 1400s, and the ecosystem recovered over the next four centuries, researchers find.Coral reefs have been dying off at alarming rates because of modern human activity, and conservationists struggle to preserve them. Now scientists have found such efforts have a long history.
