Citizen scientists map Japan radiation, DIY-style

With only spotty information available about the radiation leaking from Japan's damaged Fukushima nuclear plant after the  March 11 earthquake and tsunami, a group of tech-minded citizen scientists began building their own Geiger counters and handing them out to volunteers. Now they have assembled thousands of radiation readings and created what they hope will one day be an invaluable resource for researchers studying the nuclear disaster.
