The dingo, Australia's largest terrestrial predator, is a controversial figure. A threat to livestock, dingo populations have long been controlled through exclusion fencing, trapping, poisoning, and shooting. But this wild dog can also play a positive role as a predator. The dingo is a top predator and, as such, can be important in structuring the ecosystem in which it lives by regulating its prey and competitors.
