UF/IFAS Study Finds Simple Solution to Monitoring Major Berry Pest

Yeast, sugar and water combine to lure the deadliest berry pest in U.S. Add a drop of dishwashing liquid, and the bug drowns. That way, growers can monitor how many of the spotted wing drosophila are on their farms and know how much, or little to use reduced-risk pest controls, a UF/IFAS scientist says.
