Improved farrowing pens can save piglets

Lower piglet mortality is the goal when Norwegian researchers study the conditions of perky newborn piglets and their mothers. Several countries aim to reduce the loss of piglets using a system in which the sow can move around freely. The Norwegian researchers are experimenting with open pens with an activity area and a nest area.
