Oil in ancient caves poses new challenges

Collapsed cave systems are a new type of reservoir in the Barents Sea that can accommodate significant petroleum resources. Characterizing the reservoir properties of such systems is quite a challenge, says researchers. In 2013 and 2014 Lundin Petroleum discovered significant amounts of oil and gas in the prospects Gohta and Alta on Loppa high, north of the Snøhvit field.
