Pickering, much like Hilarious Putnam, is quite a name in the philosophy of science, or better science studies, sociology of scientific knowledge (SSK), or science and technology studies (STS), or whatever they call it now. He is also, like David Wallace, especially interested in physics, but he did not understand physics, left the field, and then started to write rubbish about so called “old” versus “new” science.
