Imagine if as a parent you were keen on exposing your baby to all of the world's languages. Translating every word is something which in theory would be possible thanks to online translators and hand-held devices. One moment the baby would hear French, the next moment Hindi. A sibling's attempts to communicate would be converted into Russian and German. Another parent's loving expressions would turn into their Chinese, Dutch or Portuguese approximations. Your child would of course not learn how to speak. But the equivalent of this zany scenario is exactly how the Quebec goverment has decided we should be teaching science to our high school students. read more
