I trust that most of us would agree intelligent design (ID) is an untestable hypothesis -- a theological argument revamped as a scientific theory, but lacking any scientific support. Why, then, does ID enjoy a following despite the evidence? We usually assume ID is an offshoot of Christian beliefs. A new study in PLoSOne, however, argues that ID's popularity in some quarters is due in part to anxiety about our own mortality. read more
