Rice Fields Provide Habitat For Breeding Bitterns

Anthropogenic habitat changes affect a variety of habitat types, but few more so than wetlands. In Europe alone, wetlands have been reduced by 80-90%, often to make room for agricultural fields. Typically, species that once lived in wetland areas find themselves homeless once humans alter the habitat, but every now and then there is an encouraging story of adaptation to and, ultimately, success in, anthropogenic areas.  read more
