Anthropogenic activities are often associated with the invasion of non-native species, both directly (through deliberate introduction) and indirectly (by facilitating invasion-friendly circumstances). Once non-native plants appear, it is usually almost impossible to eradicate them. This can have a number of negative impacts--many of which have economic consequences. For this reason, there is great interest in understanding how invasions proceed. Specifically, researchers have been trying to determine which species characteristics favor dispersal into new environments, which habitats facilitate invasion, and how these two sets of traits interact. read more
