'Whale Rock' on Mars Shows Signs of Ancient Lake (Photo)

The image shows a geological phenomenon known as "cross-bedding" within Whale Rock, part of an outcrop at the base of Mount Sharp, a mountain that rises 3.4 miles into the sky from the center of Mars' huge Gale Crater.
