Soviet-era Cosmonaut Igor Volk, Trained to Fly Buran Space Shuttle, Dies at 79

Igor Volk, a Russian cosmonaut whose only spaceflight in 1984 was intended to prepare him to fly Russia's space shuttle Buran prior to it being canceled, died on Jan. 3. He was 79. Volk's death was reported by officials in the Russian city of Zhukovsky.
