El Niño might have helped Magellan voyage

Researchers speculate that calm conditions in the Pacific altered the route of his ships, which became the first to circle the globe. El Niño, the weather phenomenon that has puzzled climate scientists in recent decades, might have assisted the first trip around the world nearly 500 years ago.
