Using the flatworm Schmidtea mediterranea--famous for its capacity to regrow complete animals from minuscule flecks of tissue--as an eloquent example, researchers at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research demonstrated how our distant evolutionary cousins regenerate their excretory systems from scratch.
