Cooperative communications when collaborators are not synchronized

A promising way to improve future wireless communication speed is to have users and/or base stations help each other. This is called cooperative communications. One of the practical difficulties in cooperative communications is the synchronization problem between the helpers. A paper in the recent issue of Science in China summarizes some of the recent techniques and advances in signal design to deal with this problem.
