3Qs: Mobile tracking in criminal investigations

Last week, the American Civil Liberties Union released a new report revealing that law-enforcement agencies frequently use cell-phone tracking data provided by wireless carriers — often without a warrant. Northeastern University news office asked Sharon Fray-Witzer, a lecturer in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice and a practicing criminal defense attorney, to analyze the use of wireless tracking data in criminal investigations and whether it infringes on users’ privacy.
