Shockwaves work better than surgery for smaller kidney stones trapped in the ureter, study suggests

Surgeons are recommending two different techniques for removing single kidney stones that have become lodged in the ureter, based on results from 273 patients. Noninvasive shockwaves worked best for stones of up to 1 cm, while larger stones were more effectively removed using a ureteroscope.
