New theory may shed light on dynamics of large-polymer liquids

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 - 16:30 in Physics & Chemistry

A new physics-based theory predicts why entangled polymers are confined to a tube-like region of space and how they respond to applied forces. This advance provides insight into behavior of both synthetic polymers used in plastics and bioploymers like the filaments that gives cells structure.
