Rise of personal technology in criminal proceedings poses risks to individuals' rights

Personal technology such as fitness trackers and smartphones have become common companions in our daily lives. But those same devices increasingly will be used in criminal proceedings to gather evidence of criminal activity by their owners, raising questions about individuals' rights that the legal system is not yet fully prepared to address, according to a new study.
