Dawn Probe Heads to Superclose Orbit of Dwarf Planet Ceres

NASA's Dawn spacecraft fired up its thrusters on Friday (Oct. 23) and began spiraling down to an orbit that lies just 230 miles (375 kilometers) from the surface of Ceres, the largest object in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
