FDA moves toward restricting menthol in cigarettes

Menthol cigarettes appear to be more addictive and pose a greater health threat than unflavored tobacco, an FDA report says. The agency plans more studies and will 'explore all potential options.'The Food and Drug Administration has set the stage to restrict — or possibly ban — mentholated cigarettes on the grounds that they are more appealing to new smokers, more addictive to longtime smokers and pose a greater threat to the public's health than does unflavored tobacco.
