Though staunchly opposed to nuclear power, the Obama administration said in 2012 that it was "jumpstarting" the nuclear industry with a loan guarantee. Financial markets were not buying it, just like they have not bought similar claims as far back as the Clinton administration, the last time a nuclear power effort was finished. No full-size nuclear plant has gotten a permit in decades and due to government obstacles so there are guaranteed to be cost overruns. The supposed "nuclear renaissance" we kept hearing about was scuttled when a a series of non-nuclear scientists, and even an anti-nuclear non-scientist, were entrenched in various levels of the Depart of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. read more
