Study Finds Missing Link in How Stars Die

White dwarfs are small, dense stars that used to be much larger, but burned up most of their fuel and languish as dim leftovers the remainder of their lives. Now astronomers have detected two white dwarfs that could help illuminate why some stars end up like this.
