Volcanic ash snarls air traffic in Alaska

Mt. Redoubt erupts, spewing ash up to 60,000 feet, canceling flights, stranding hikers and putting residents in the affected areas in a holding pattern. The eruption of a 10,200-foot Alaska volcano spewed ash up to 60,000 feet in the air, snarling air travel Monday and stranding small groups of people in remote, sparsely populated parts of the vast state.
