A digital image of Leonardo da Vinci's painting became the first transmission via laser to a satellite in lunar orbit. Lasers offer a more efficient way to 'talk' with spacecraft. The beam traveled ~240,000mi to NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.
